Pat Vaughn & Bridget Thompson

We want to take just a moment to tell our loyal website visitors of a few changes to SameFight.org.  As you already have seen, Kassidy Foster, has been added to our site.  We're very sorry for her fight, but we are very glad that we can help her and her family during this difficult time.

Check out these page additions and changes:
Kassidy Update Page including pictures
Foster's Family journal
Well wishes for Kassidy
Our Angels - a page dedicated to Joshua and his story
Thank you from the Foster's

You may also notice that our logo has changed.  We've added a white ribbon for Kassidy.   The American Cancer Society has assigned colors to all the different types of cancer.  Brain cancer is represented with gray and bone cancer is represented with white.  As children are added to the website, we will continue to add ribbons.  Of course our ultimate prayer is that no other child will need us!

Coffee is served
From: Eric Fendley

We had our coffeehouse event Saturday night, April 14th, at the Presbyterian Church of Floyd to benefit Samefight.org.  I am proud to report that through the love of the folks who attended, $1,523.00 dollars was offered for our dear friends the Cantrell and Harman families.

The music was fun, the snacks and coffee were abundant and the Holy Spirit was again at work.

God bless everyone who attended and know He is always with us!

The Abundant Life Fellowship, along with Willis Full Gospel, sponsored a Barbeque Dinner and Gospel Singing on March 31st.  The event, held at the  Abundant Life Fellowship church, started around 4:00pm serving meals, then followed by a special singing at 7:00pm.

$1 donation tickets were sold for chances to win door prizes.  Door prizes included Princess House: vases, candy dishes, bowls, casserole dish, etc.  Home Interior: candle, picture, wall hanging, Dinner gift certificates, oil change certificates,  VT autographed basketball, and much more.

Special music was provided by several different individuals as well as Floyd County ’s very own Tara Hall, who just recently cut a CD in Nashville .   Joining in the singing were the Abundant Life Fellowship Youth Choir, Jeff and Sheila (Gallimore) Lusk, Mark and Terry Vaughn, Amber Thompson, Myra Cox and Greg Cox.

"We raised an estimated $2,400," said Wanda McAlexander.  "Deron Washington and Britney Anderson, both VT basketball players, came by to show their support.  They signed autographs, smiled for pictures, and helped with the drawing of door prizes.  Deron made the day of a very special Floyd County boy when he presented Bradley Vaughn with an autographed VT basketball.  After the meal, we all went into the sanctuary for the singing, it was wonderful, such a blessing.  Travis and Laura joined us, along with Allen Harman.  They are such a blessing.  A very good night."

On March 23rd and 24th, the Stars & Stripes Farm of Fincastle, Virginia hosted a Horsemanship Clinic.  Audit fees were donated to SameFight.org.  "The Richie Wingfield Horsemanship Clinic was more than we could have imagined," said spokesperson Marianne Jolley.  "We had a full class of 9 participants and a large number of auditors.  The weather was perfect.  We covered trailer issues, farrier issues and spent two full days on gaining respect from your horse on the ground and in the saddle.  We worked very hard for 2 full days on disengaging on the ground and in the saddle and on side passing both ways and opening and closing gates easily, (not so easy!!!)."

The event, which already has folks asking for this to be an annual clinic was a great success.  "We had a wonderful time and learned so much that we are all actively working on daily! We were proud to have made $600 in profits for Joshua Cantrell.  We were so happy to see Gale and Alan drop by to watch the activities on Saturday! We all remember Joshua riding around our farm last summer with his granddad... and running up and down my barn. These were great memories that we hold dear to our hearts," said Jolley.

Early Childhood Music Program

One Peace at a Time Project

The Early Childhood Music Program of Floyd, coordinated by Kari Thomas Kovick, has wrapped up their current schedule.  The last scheduled class was Saturday, March 31 at Turman's Sports Complex.   She is open to doing more if a group requests (church, daycare, etc.)  The three classes, held so far, have raised $1,400 total, (that includes the matching funds) for Medical Charities of Floyd.  At least half of that donation is earmarked for samefight families.

Kari has an open invitation to assist families.  If you would like to coordinate a class for your group of children/families who wish to raise more money specifically for samefight, she will donate 100% of the income from those classes to samefight upon request.  That would also include matching funds for those classes.  The program is part of a non-profit organization called CERC, Community Education Resource Coalition.

"I am in full swing with the recording part of this project.  All efforts for this project are being donated.  Dave Fason of Windfall Studios and Mark Hodges of Mountain Fever Studios are giving all their time and space for free.  My band, Windfall, is providing back-up accompaniment to all the songs," said Kari.

Recorded songs to date:

What Can One Little Person Do? (Blue Mountain School 2-5th grade class)
I'm Not Scared (BMS K-1st grade class)
Magic Penny
When I Feel Mad      (Floyd Head Start class)
We're All a Family Under One Sky (scheduled for recording on Wednesday, April 4th with Kari's Early Childhood Music Program families)

There will be a One Peace at a Time Family Concert at the Floyd Country Store for a some weeknight during the week of May 21-24, TBA.  The band Windfall, the kids, and Kari will perform all the songs on the CD, and sell the CD.  All proceeds are going to charity (Medical Charities of Floyd, and the school programs of the children singing on the CD).

You may contact Kari at 540-745.7331 or via email at kariok@swva.net
